FDNY firefighters battled a blaze that broke out early Friday in an underground Harlem subway station, killing a man and injuring more than a dozen people.
The fire started just before 3:30 a.m. in a subway train car near the 110th Street Central Park North station, the New York Post reports.
More than 100 firefighters attacked the blaze, and a spokesman told ABC News that the fire scene was "challenging" and "dark." Crews were able to put out the fire in about 30 minutes.
A 36-year-old man was killed in the blaze, according to the Post. At least 17 people suffered injuries, including five firefighters who suffered minor injuries. Fire officials told ABC News that among those hurt, four were injured critically and one person suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Train service was suspended, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
